Ja’Quez Q. Johnson Fatal Crash Greenville, NC Death and Obituary: In Loving Memory
The Greenville, North Carolina community is mourning the tragic loss of 28-year-old Ja’Quez Q. Johnson, who was killed in a crash Thursday morning, March 19, 2026, along U.S. 301 near Elm City.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 6:52 a.m. in the southbound lanes of U.S. 301, between East Langley Road and Beauvue Road. Investigators say Johnson was driving a 2011 Honda southbound when he approached a 2024 Isuzu Frito-Lay truck operated by 42-year-old Clinton Whitaker of Nashville.
Authorities reported that the truck had slowed and was partially in the left travel lane while preparing to make a U-turn in a median turnaround. Johnson failed to reduce speed and collided with the rear of the truck. Following the impact, his vehicle traveled off the roadway to the left before coming to rest in the left travel lane, while the truck remained in the area of impact.
Johnson was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of the crash. Troopers estimated the sedan’s speed at the time of impact to be approximately 55 mph. Officials confirmed that neither drugs nor alcohol were factors in the collision.
The crash led to the closure of the southbound lanes of U.S. 301 for about two hours as emergency crews investigated and cleared the scene. Damage to Johnson’s vehicle was estimated at $10,000.
The loss of Ja’Quez has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew him, and the community continues to mourn the young man’s passing.
